Very unaccommodating Property Management company. We were traveling 14 hours to get to France and our flight landed early. There was no way we could convince Happy Rentals to allow us to checkin early. Also had to go to a place a mile away to pickup the key which cost us an extra $40 US since we hired a driver. :(
I enjoy leaving reviews and this is the only bad review I’ve left in more than a decade. This rental company is awful. We booked this economic lodging in Chamonix Sud to save a little money as we are traveling in Europe as a family for several weeks. Our unit was on the 4th floor. On arrival at the parking garage, we were met with a huge, deep puddle of foul smelling water at the door to the building- it was so big you had no option other than to wade through it. The puddle was there for 2 days. The elevator was broken the whole first day and we had to haul our luggage, skis and gear up 5 flights from the parking garage. Every floor we passed smelled worse than the last- so foul we had to cover our faces. There was a huge pile of hair in one stairwell- as if someone had gotten a haircut there and left it. Our unit was clean but really worn. Paper thin sheets and prison grade towels. We complained about none of this to the management, as we are not complainers and we go with the flow. But here was the worst part- on the day of checkout, our daughter had a fever and was very sick. I asked the cleaning crew if we could have an extra 30 minutes to let her rest before leaving (so, instead of 10 am, I asked to check out at 10:30 am). The cleaning crew was very nice , they called the management to check, then they said, “Of course, stay another 30 minutes, we can clean another unit first.” But then 3 minutes later an angry, bitter young woman banged on our door so loudly it rattled the windows. It was an employee of the rental company. She was extremely rude, and demanded that we leave immediately. She berated us and scolded us incessantly, even when we said we would leave that minute. Her anger was inappropriate given the situation. Even when I explain that we’d been told we could have a mere 30 minute delayed checkout and the reason why (our sick child), she continued to yell at me. We were packed and ready and left at once, and we will never, ever use this rental company again. They could have handled that politely but instead chose to be unnecessarily nasty- it was a pathetic power trip and totally out of line, especially given the poor state of the building and how shabby everything was in general. *** Update: the owners of the rental company accused me of using "abusive language" to their staff via SMS. Not only is that impossible as I never communicated wit them via any sort of texting, only face to face, I would never, under any circumstances use abusive language. I certainly did not use abusive language to any of their staff, I was actually calm and polite despite their rudeness. They lied about our communication and refused to remove their inaccurate comment here in this review forum. This company is not to be trusted.
Not only is this rental company utterly lacking in any customer service or professionalism, it is a dishonest entity that lies on this Google review platform. Please see the review left by my wife, Jennifer Julia, about our stay there and the outrageously rude way our family was treated. Happy Rentals responded to her review by claiming that she used "abusive language" with a staff member- that is an outrageous, boldfaced lie. My wife called the company immediately when they published that response and they told her, "You left them us abusive text via WhatsApp." My wife does not have WhatsApp on her phone! She does not use WhatsApp, ever, and furthermore, she never contacted the company via text in any way, she only spoke with them verbally. My wife is a children's theater director, and a very polite and gentle person. When she asked the company to please remove their comment which accused her of using inappropriate language, they refused, thus besmirching her character. Happy Rentals is a dishonest, unprofessional company that is comfortable telling lies online. The unit we stayed in was shabby, worn, and a sad victim of deferred maintenance. You can find much better in Chamonix, and you can stay in a place where you will not be shouted at by a staff member for a very minor infraction (delaying checkout by 20 minutes when your child is very ill). Shame on you "Happy" Rentals for not making this right when you had the chance.
Poor value for money, worse considering the self check-in and -out, and that the only human interaction was a passive aggressive sms exchange because the keys had not been returned at 10am (instructions only indicated the apartment should be empty at 10am, while the key drop-off box is located about 15 min walk from the apartment…), after which the employee tried to confront me with the fact - instead of acknowledging the lack of clarity in their pdf instructions
The best thing about this room was the view. Mountains right outside the window! Very sparse on the amenities... like you have to buy your own toilet paper, tissues, etc. Not enough to last through the stay. Apartment had too much furniture, so made it feel a little cramped. The mattress, if you could call it that, was a bit like a cot you would get at camp. Not very comfortable at all. All that being said, we enjoyed our stay in this amazing city! Any issue we had was dealt with, though not promptly. Make sure you read details carefully... free wifi is not included as it says on Marriott Home Rentals.
